TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesian para-athletes have won 37 medals, including 12 gold, 11 silver and 14 bronze from 2021. Youth Asian Paralympic Games (AYPG) which took place in Manama, Bahrain, from December 2-6.
The 2021 Asian Paralympic Youth Games, also known as the 4th Asian Paralympic Youth Games, is the fourth edition of multi-sport events for Asian para-athletes.
Gold medals came from Ryan Arda Diarta who won the men’s 200m T44, Muhamad Dimas Ubaidillah (men’s 400m T11), Firza Faturahman Listianto (men’s 100m T46) and Sholahuddin Al-Ayyubi (men’s shot put F41 ).
Three gold medals were won in para swimming thanks to Mr. Gerry Pahker in the 100m breaststroke men SB6 and Mutiara Cantik Harsanto (100m butterfly S9 and 100m backstroke women S9).
In para-weightlifting, Indonesia won two gold medals thanks to Dwiska Afrilia Maharani (79 kg woman) and Elsa Dewi Saputri (+86 kg woman).
The para-badminton team also won two gold medals, respectively, thanks to Hikmat Ramdani / Adinda Nugraheni (SL3-SL4 / SU5) in mixed doubles and Hikmat Ramdani (SU5 in men’s singles).
Meanwhile, Febriyanti Vani Rahmadhan contributed a gold medal in the female boccia category for the BC 2 female category.
Deputy Chef de Mission Andar Perdana Widiastono said they were not initially aiming to win medals at AYPG 2021, but rather to offer athletes, who were mostly beginners, the opportunity to acquire experience in competition at a sporting event of international level.
In total, Indonesia has mobilized 35 of its best young athletes for the Youth Asian Paralympic Games and has participated in sporting events such as para-athletics, badminton, weightlifting, swimming, taekwondo and table tennis.
