“It gives us a bit more versatility on the property,” said manager Rob Kelly. “We have outdoor soccer in the summer. Now we can have soccer and other sports throughout the winter at the indoor facilities. I’m just trying to find another piece of the pie to bring new income to the business.

Fogolar Furlan, established in 1961, was hit hard when the COVID-19 pandemic ended weddings, banquets and other large-scale events he had relied on for decades.

The club has spent the past year and a half going through a rebranding process to attract young members and the general public.

Last year he started serving people on his large outdoor patio and renting a pickleball hall. In May, it sold 10 acres of land for $ 6.1 million.

Another pillar of the plan was to remove the old pétanque grounds and replace them with a modern indoor sports facility with multiple uses. Two new pétanque grounds will be added outside.

Kelly said the club spent more than $ 100,000 on the facility, which is now available for hire. The grass, about 26 meters by 26 meters, can be divided into two.

The facility, which also includes a new bar and restaurant, can accommodate a long list of activities including baseball, training camps, lawn bowling and volleyball. An adult soccer league and a few youth soccer leagues already play it.

Kelly said there are also plans to outfit the space for archery, birthday parties, corporate team building and a Nerf gun shooting class.

But the club is not giving up its banquet halls. As weddings and other big events pick up, Kelly said the next step in the rebranding plan will be to offer menus that go beyond the traditional Italian dishes the club is known for.

“We are trying to compete with more than the Italian clubs,” he said.
