How Tottenham Hotspur could line up for their first return leg

Sports Mole is examining how Tottenham could line up for their first game after lockdown, with Harry Kane among the players expected to return for Man United’s visit.

As for the clubs that have benefited the most from the three-month hiatus of the Premier League season, Tottenham Hotspur are up there.

North Londoners were missing some key players with injury and had gone six games without a win in all competitions before the lockdown – the worst streak of Jose mourinhomanagerial career.

The forced shutdown of the coronavirus could therefore give them the perfect opportunity to reset and get their European push back on track, with a visit from Mourinho’s former team. Manchester United first the weekend of June 19 to 21.

Here, Sporty Taupe see how Spurs could line up for this showdown.

The title regarding Tottenham’s first return leg will surround Harry kane, who initially appeared to be in a race against time to appear again this season after suffering a serious hamstring injury on New Years Day.

The England captain’s chances at Euro 2020 even seemed threatened at one point, but he is now back in training and should be in contention to lead the line for the first return leg.

Son Heung-min was also an injury issue before the lockdown, but he too is now set to feature, fresh out of a mandatory national service stint in his native South Korea.

Steven bergwijn sprained his ankle in March which could have kept him sidelined for the rest of the season, but as he does, he might not miss a single league game, while Moussa Sissoko also overcame the injury issue he suffered in the same game as Kane earlier this year.

Indeed, the only doubt about Tottenham’s injuries now is replacement striker Troy Parrott, who has undergone appendix surgery and will therefore miss the restart.

Mourinho generally opted for a return to three before the lockdown went into effect, with Jan Vertonghen regularly missing from Japhet Tanganga as it draws closer to a summer outing on a free transfer.

There will also be an intrigue as to whether Tanguy Ndombele has an important role to play, with Mourinho publicly criticizing the signing of the record shortly before the stoppage of play.
