Is New York’s favorite carnival game going entirely virtual?

As of now, there are NO plans to move to any virtual carnival games like I Got It. But what if the games you love had to be tweaked to be more germ-free?

Who doesn’t love a good game of “I Got It”? Could this be the only reason you go to a carnival, lawn party or county fair? In fact, it’s one of the biggest attractions and games at both the Erie County Fair and the New York State Fair. But what will “I Got It” look like in the future?

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed so many things over the past two years. From mask and vaccine mandates to the way we shop and eat out, we’ve all had to adapt to the new way of doing things. Many of us who weren’t “germ freaks” before now wash our hands and are more germ-aware than before. But will the pandemic affect how we play our favorite games? As of now, there doesn’t appear to be any plan to change the “I Got It” game to its current form. But maybe there will and should be a day when we play it virtually? It would be a significant start-up cost, but since everything else seems to be moving towards a more technological setup, it doesn’t seem like a stretch to do the same for carnival games.

“I Got It” is one of the most fun, yet frustrating games at fairs and lawn parties. How is it possible you’re still one bullet away from winning when someone yells “I got it”? It’s brutal. But it keeps you coming back for more. I once won a basketball playing “I Got It” and you would have thought I had won the Super Bowl, I was so excited!

For now, we can all expect to play the best carnival game the same way we grew up playing. But there may be a generation of fairground goers who touch a screen for “ball number 2.”
