Pakistan hopes to qualify for 2028 Olympics in bocce sport

KARACHI: Pakistan has the potential to qualify for the 2028 Olympics as the sport of bocce will most likely be included in the Games.

Pakistan Bocce Volo Federation Secretary Abdus Samad said Bocce had put forward a very strong bid to be included in the 2024 Summer Olympics in 2015.

But, he added, the International Olympic Committee and the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee have not included pétanque in Paris 2024.

The PBVF secretary said that now this sport is very likely to be included in the 2028 Olympics and it is hoped that Pakistan can participate in the Olympics in this sport.

“Millions of people around the world play bocce both as a recreational game or as a competitive sport, he said.

He added that the sport is also becoming very popular in Pakistan and is being formalized through official channels.

“We recently obtained official recognition from the FIB (the International Bowls Federation),” he informed.

Abdus Samad said provincial and municipal associations of elders are being formed and different events have been organized. “We will now hold the Pakistan Inter-Club Championship in Hyderabad in August,” the PBVF secretary said.

He said that Bocce with its four disciplines (Raffa, Boule/Volo, Pétanque, Bowlshas) has become a world-class sport and today it has reached almost 150 countries.
