VELIKO TARNOVO, Bulgaria – Americans Pat Lugo and Jennifer Rogers each won the bronze medal on day three of competition at the Dan Kolov-Nikola Petrov International in Bulgaria.

Wrestling at 65 kg in freestyle gentlemen, Pat Lugo won his repechage match against Aikhaan Antonov of Russia with a dominating 12-2 technical fall to advance to the bronze medal match. There he met 2018 European U23 silver medalist VItalie Bunici from Moldova. Lugo walked away with the 5-3 decision and a bronze medal on his international debut.

In women’s freestyle, Jennifer Roger won her medal at 62 kg. She rebounded from a second-round loss to Spain’s Lydia Perez in the fight for third place. Rogers emerged victorious with a solid 9-2 win for bronze.

Two other Americans recorded fifth-place finishes on Saturday, including Nico Provo (MFS 57kg) and Farmer Tanner (GR 130 kg). Provo moved on to the bronze medal match after a semifinal loss on Friday, but lost in the medal fight against Aliabbas Rzazade of Azerbaijan, 10-0. Farmer was dragged into the repechage and won his first game of the day against Roman Kim of Kyrgyzstan with an 8-0 technical fall to advance to the medal game. For bronze, Farmer lost a 7-1 bout to 2019 European U23 silver medalist Lenard Berei of Romania to take fifth place.

A US representative is still on the hunt for a medal tomorrow as Ceron Francisco was dragged into the bronze medal fight after a semi-final loss at 125kg in the men’s freestyle. Francisco won his first tournament with an injury default win over Moldova’s Egor Olar. The American was leading 2-0 at the time of the injury. In the semi-final, he lost to two-time U23 world medalist Dzianis Khramiankou of Belarus, 7-4. Francisco’s opponent for bronze will be determined in tomorrow’s repechage.
